Common causes of tooth pain include:

  • Cavities: Tooth decay is a leading cause of tooth pain. If left untreated, a cavity can worsen and affect the deeper layers of the tooth, leading to more severe pain and potential tooth loss.
  • Infections or Abscesses: Infections within the tooth or gums can cause significant pain and swelling. If an infection is present, we may recommend root canal therapy or other treatments to eliminate the infection and save the tooth.
  • Cracked or Damaged Teeth: Teeth that are cracked, chipped, or damaged can become sensitive and painful, especially when chewing or exposed to hot or cold temperatures. Depending on the severity, we may repair the damage with dental bonding, crowns, or other restorative treatments.
  • Gum Disease: Advanced gum disease can cause gum and tooth pain. We provide periodontal therapy to treat gum disease and relieve discomfort.

Our dentists will perform a thorough examination to accurately diagnose the cause of your tooth pain. Treatment may involve a simple dental filling, a crown, or more advanced procedures like root canal therapy. No matter the issue, we are dedicated to restoring your dental health and relieving your pain.

Jaw Pain Relief: Addressing TMJ and Other Conditions at Dental Care Acworth

Jaw pain can be caused by a variety of issues, many of which stem from problems with the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), the joint that connects your jaw to your skull. TMJ disorders (TMD) can lead to jaw pain, headaches, and difficulty chewing. However, jaw pain can also result from other dental problems, such as misaligned teeth, gum disease, or even teeth grinding (bruxism).

At Dental Care Acworth, we provide effective treatments for jaw pain, tailored to the specific cause of your discomfort. Common causes of jaw pain include:

  • Teeth Grinding (Bruxism): Many people grind their teeth at night, leading to jaw pain, worn teeth, and headaches. Our team can provide night guards to protect your teeth and alleviate jaw discomfort.
  • Gum Disease and Infections: Infections in the gums can spread to the jaw, causing pain and swelling. Prompt treatment of gum disease with periodontal therapy can relieve pain and restore gum health.
  • Misaligned Bite: An uneven bite can put extra stress on the jaw, leading to discomfort. We offer bite correction treatments to realign your teeth and reduce jaw pain.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions About Tooth Pain Relief

Tooth pain is commonly the result of tooth decay, infection or a cracked tooth. Teeth grinding and sensitivity can also cause it. Pain is a common symptom of an underlying problem that needs treatment.

Treatment for dental pain is dependent upon the reason for the dental pain. Dental treatment can include filling in cavities, putting crowns on teeth, root canals, or removing teeth. Dentists also may prescribe antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications to help alleviate pain.

Very mild types of dental pain caused by sensitivity or irritation may improve without dental treatment. However, most dental pain will continue to be a problem unless it is treated, as most dental problems that are causing the pain can become more serious if they are not treated.

Failure to treat dental pain can lead to serious complications. Tooth pain could indicate a tooth that is infected or damaged, which will occur and lead to an abscess, severe pain, or the loss of teeth if not treated.

Tooth pain can be worse at night because of the increased blood flow to the head position when sleeping, and this increases the amount of pressure on the tooth. Also, at night, the absence of other things taking our minds off the pain, and limited change in position will intensify the pain.

Great dental care and amazing doctors! For capping my tooth we had a small misunderstanding and setback but they went out of their way to make it right for me and treated me with respect! I’m terrible with names but the doctor, i believe she’s Latin like me, and wears glasses. She puts 100% into her work and making sure everything is perfect. And the assistant with a low blonde ponytail was also very kind and knowledgeable. Me and my family will definitely continue coming to Dental Care Acworth!

This is truly the best dental office I have ever visited! Mayra and Dr. Melissa were exceptional. They accommodated me for a same-day cleaning and provided wonderful care from start to finish. I first came to this office several years ago for a second opinion after another dental practice told me I would need a dental implant costing between $4,000 and $6,000. Instead, Dr. Mitchell was able to save what he described as a healthy tooth by placing a crown. I remain incredibly grateful for his honesty, transparency, and conservative approach to my care. Despite staff changes over the years, the kindness and quality of care have remained consistently outstanding. Even the receptionist, Maggie—I hope I remembered her name correctly—was friendly and helpful! I will gladly recommend this office to everyone I know. The entire team makes an experience many people dread feel comfortable and pleasant. They all deserve raises!

This is the best Dental practice I have ever been to. Dr Melissa’s and her staff are not only professionals at what they do but they do everything in a compassionate and caring manner. Dr Mellissa took the time to explain the dental care that was needed, options, and always gave estimates on each procedure. This was the only dental office where I felt that they were not trying to upsell me. Their in house dental plans are very competitive and are a great option for dental coverage.
