Dental Insurance: Use It or Lose It?

confident man in yellow shirt

As the golden leaves fall and the crispness of November signals the year’s end, many of us are reminded of the numerous tasks awaiting completion before we usher in the new year. Among those tasks, for some, is the utilization of dental insurance benefits. Just as we winterize our homes and vehicles, ensuring our oral health is optimized for the coming year is crucial.

Dental insurance is a fantastic tool to encourage preventive care. Its very design is rooted in the belief that with regular check-ups and cleaning, more significant oral health problems can be averted. Yet, the maze of policy documents, terms of coverage, and deductible amounts can often be confusing. Many policyholders are left wondering: “What does my dental plan cover?” or “What will be my out-of-pocket expense after insurance?”

At Dental Care Acworth, we understand that navigating the world of dental insurance can be perplexing. Our experienced team is here to help you make sense of your policy. We’ll guide you in understanding your coverages, decipher the terms, and make the most out of the benefits you’ve paid for.

Have You Taken Advantage of Your Covered Cleanings This Year?

Here’s an important reminder as 2023 draws to a close: many dental insurance plans cover two preventive visits annually. These visits often include routine cleanings, check-ups, and sometimes x-rays. If you’ve not taken advantage of these visits yet, now’s the time. As the saying goes, “Use it or lose it!” These benefits don’t roll over, and neglecting them essentially equates to leaving money on the table – money that you’ve already invested in your oral health.

Why are these visits so crucial? Regular dental check-ups help catch potential issues when they’re small and manageable. For example, identifying a cavity early can save a lot of pain, time, and money down the line. It’s about proactive care rather than reactive treatment.

Moreover, as the year-end approaches, dental offices can get quite busy with patients rushing to use up their insurance benefits. So, it’s wise to schedule your visit sooner rather than later.

Beyond assisting with your immediate dental needs, we at Dental Care Acworth are committed to ensuring transparency in billing. Our team will file your claims, handle the paperwork, and provide a clear picture of any out-of-pocket costs you can anticipate post-insurance. No unexpected bills or surprises, just comprehensive dental care tailored to your needs and budget.

Need Help Understanding or Maximizing Your Dental Benefits?

Dental insurance is more than just a policy number or a card in your wallet. It’s a gateway to preventive care, overall wellness, and financial savings. As we approach the end of 2023, remember to prioritize your oral health. Schedule your visit with us, utilize your insurance benefits, and step into the new year with a radiant smile and optimal oral health. Our team welcomes the opportunity to help you understand your specific dental insurance plan with Aetna, Cigna, Delta Dental, Humana or another carrier.

FAQs

What does “use it or lose it” mean for dental insurance?

Many dental insurance plans have annual benefit limits that do not roll over. Unused benefits may expire at the end of the plan year.

Do dental insurance benefits reset every year?

Most dental insurance plans reset annually. Any unused portion of your yearly maximum may be lost when the new benefit period begins.

How can I check my remaining dental insurance benefits?

You can contact your insurance provider or dental office to review your remaining benefits and determine what treatments may still be covered.

What dental treatments should I schedule before benefits expire?

Preventive exams, cleanings, fillings, crowns, and other recommended treatments are often worth completing before your insurance benefits reset.

Can delaying dental treatment cost more later?

Yes. Small dental issues can become more complex over time, potentially requiring more extensive treatment and higher out-of-pocket expenses.

Decided to give this office a try as I haven’t been to a dentist in a while bc of some bad visits other places and let me say this place changed my whole perspective. Dr. Melissa was excellent and thorough with everything. Jessica cleaned my teeth and did an amazing job. Both were very patient and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. I 100% recommend this dental office and they for sure have a return patient going forward!

I had such a great experience at this dental office!! Maggie is incredibly sweet and caring! She made me feel comfortable right away and took the time to walk me through everything she was doing. Dr. Hayer was just as amazing. He was very thorough when going over my X-rays and clearly explained a plan for my dental care moving forward. I also had fillings done, and the whole process was quick and completely painless. I felt zero anxiety during the procedure, and both Maggie and Dr. Hayer were both so reassuring throughout! The entire team was professional, kind, and welcoming. Overall, one of the best dental experiences I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this office if you’re looking for a place that truly prioritizes comfort and care!

My recent appointment was a very positive experience. While I've been to this office many times, this was my first occasion meeting Dhara who did my cleaning. She is very kind, funny, and personable. She calmly and clearly explained my treatment plan along with the associated costs. Dhara even gave me toothbrush recommendations and did a great job at easing my nerves and making me feel very comfortable. She is very professional, efficient, and answered all of my questions. Thank you!
